In 1215 when the King Singhan came in Mahabaleshwar, he builds a small temple near Krishna river. Then in the 16th century, Chandrarao More (Maratha) rebuilt this temple.

The credit of these beautiful temples goes to the Britishers who discovered it.

It is a perfect example of Hemadant architectural style of South-India. There is a Shivling inside the temple, the local folklore believes that it came up on his own. 300 years old Rudraksha, Damru, Trident (Trishul) and a bed of Lord Shiva in the temple.

In this Mahabaleshwar temple, Shivaji Maharaj weighted his mother Jijabai with gold and distributed that gold among his subjects.

Nearby Mahabaleshwar temple there is two more temple that is Atibaleshwar Temple and Panchganga Temple.

2. Atibaleshwar Temple

Atibaleshwar Temple is situated in the premises of Mahabaleshwar Temple. Basically, both the temples are set up on the request of two demons, Atibal and Mahabal. This temple is smaller than the Mahabaleshwar temple.


This is a Vishnu temple inform of Lingam (ling). Inside the temple, there is a lingam in front of which there is a Turtle made of stone.


3. Panchganga Temple

It is also known as 5 Rewari Temple. An old, historical and holy temple of Mahabaleshwar. The Panchganga temple is constructed at the convergence of five rivers i.e, Krishna, Venna, Savitri, Koyna and Gayatri. It is believed that five rivers originate from Gomukhi (Cow made of stone) inside Panchganga Temple. 

The temple was constructed in the 13th century by “Yadava King Singhdeo”. The construction improvement of the Panchganga Temple was done during the 16th-17th century by “Chandrarao More” and “Chatrapati Shivaji Rao”. 

Panchganga Temple in old Mahabaleshwar is said to be 4500 years old. However, there is no historical evidence of this fact.

4. Krishnabai Temple

                                               
This is a temple of Lord Shiva and Goddess Krishna. If you admire the ancient architecture, peace, nature and a believes religion, this is one place that combines all.

It has its own ancient history and Geographical belief. It is hidden from regular tourism places. Most guides don’t bring you here. It is nearby Mahabaleshwar Temple.

5. Maruti Mandir

You can reach this Temple through Boat. This temple goes inside the lake in heavy rainfall.


6. Shree Janni Mata Mandir

This temple was established during the British period in the year 1899.

7. Koteshwar Temple


Koteshwar Temple is very beautiful and divine but the surrounding is a little bit messy and untidy because of nearby residential area.

8. Datta Temple

Datta Mandir is also a historical temple of Mahabaleshwar. It is made up of Black stone.
