Panchgani name is made up to two words ‘Panch’ and ‘Gani’, Panch means Five and Gani mean Village so the whole Panchgani mean “Five Village” that five villages are Dandeghar, Godavali, Khingar, Ambral and Taighat.

The name Panchgani was given by the British superintendent Sir John Chesson.

Panchgani was originally settled by the retired Britishers, but slowly-slowly it evolved as a centre of attraction for visitors and an educational hub.
